FAQs

Can I change my partner?

Unfortunately you are not able to change your partner at any point in the competition. If anyone is suspected of doing so, your team will automatically face disqualification. Please select your partner carefully when deciding to enter this competition.

What do I do if it's close to deadline and I cannot reach my partner to make our song public?

We run a very fair competition. As long as you have spoken to a judge via the Dynamic Vocals LINE or Smule account we are usually happy to accept the link via private message. However, do not leave this until last minute. We are fair but we can not accommodate for lots of people relying on this and for this to be allowed you must contact a judge BEFORE the round deadline. Your entry will not be accepted if you contact us after the deadline has passed.

What do we do if neither of us have a VIP account?

Once you have selected your song for the round you can contact us via the Dynamic Vocals LINE or Smule account and we can open the song for you. Please choose carefully because we will only open one song for you.

Can we use backing vocals on our track?

It is advisable that you avoid selecting tracks that have pre-recorded backing vocals but it is not restricted. Our judges are fair and are able to tell the difference between selecting a track with backing vocals that enhance the performance and having backing vocals on the track because that's the only version available. Do not rely on backing vocals to help you through this process. You will not last in the competition if you do.

Are we only allowed to use Smule verified tracks?

No, you can use any track you wish to help you create your performance.

Can I enter with more than one partner?

No, you are only allowed to enter the competition with one partner. We ask that you select your partner carefully.

How long will the competition last for?

Dynamic Vocals is a six round competition. Therefore, the competition lasts around six weeks once the first round is released. For specific deadline dates you can find a detailed timeline on the website under the 'Timeline' tab.

Can we change our Smule names?

Yes, you may change your Smule name. If you change your Smule name after registering for the competition, please make sure you fill in this form.
Link: https://fran63.typeform.com/to/crUc4H
This is to ensure that you are not accused of switching partners when a judge doesn't recognize a Smule name.

Can we change the name of our group?

When you register you are required to provide us with a team name. You are not permitted to change this once you have registered your team so please think carefully about your team name.

Can I PM judges if the official account doesn't respond in say 15 minutes (or less)?

No, you are not permitted to PM judges throughout this competition. They have a lot of work to do regarding judging and giving you feedback, therefore all questions must come through the official means to communicate with our judges. We do have several judges running the official Line account and they do live in different time zones and we aim to reply to any queries as quickly as possible.

I'm having technical difficulties, what do I do?

Contact us as soon as possible and explain the situation. We will help you come up with a solution.

When will results be announced?

Results will be announced 48 hours after the round deadline. If you go to the 'Countdown' tab on the website you can find a countdown timer that will countdown to results.

I read my feedback and I still don't understand my score. What now?

That's fine! We are happy to talk you through your score if you contact us via the official Line or Smule account!

I am not in the GMT time zone, when is my song due in?

There is a countdown timer available under the 'Countdown' tab on the website. Please refer to this if you live in a different timezone.

Someone is being negative about my team, what do I do?

This competition is meant to be fun. At first we would say ignore it but make sure you inform us via the official means and we will investigate this with you but be prepared to provide sufficient evidence.

Can a judge listen to our song and give us feedback before submitting our song?

No, we do not provide a coaching process throughout this competition. We are excited to see how you react to different themes and genres and we feel that asking judges for advice and opinions before hand offers an unfair advantage. If you have evidence of another team getting this advantage please inform us via the official means as soon as possible.

Can I sing a song in a different key or does it have to be the original key?

You are always able to select a different key for your song. You can select a different key to best support your range but make sure that you read the rules and do not select a version that it outside of the rules attached to the round.

Can I sing an alternative version for my song?

The rules will always state whether you are able to choose alternative versions of the songs you choose. Please be vigilant and read through these rules carefully.
